Gen. 1:3, 5a

GOD’S CREATION

Lesson 2

LIGHT

Child’s Verse:

Gen. 1:3, 5a

And God said, Let there be light; and there was light…And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night.

Scripture Reference:

Gen. 1:3-5:

3 And God said, Let there be light; and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good, and God separated the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.

Burden:

When God created the heavens and the earth, everything was beautiful. But then something happened and everything became dark. Then God said, “Let there be light; and there was light” (Gen. 1:3). God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. God was preparing the earth for His great plan.

Lesson:

  1. Review Lesson 1 by reminding the children how beautiful the heavens and the earth were when God first created them.
  2. Then something happened and everything became dark. Illustrate “darkness” by talking about things the children cannot do in the dark.
  3. Because God has a great plan, something that He wants to do, He wouldn’t let the earth stay in darkness. God spoke, “Let there be light; and there was light.” God saw that the light was good. This means God was happy with the light—He liked it.
  4. Then God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day. When is it light outside? During the day. God called the darkness Night. When is it dark outside? During the night.
  5. Remember how beautiful the heavens and the earth were when God first created them? Then the earth became very dark. God did not like the darkness, so He came and said, “Let there be light.” God was restoring the earth and making it just right for His great plan.
